To Draw or Write First ?

There will be many iterations of both drawings and prose before the framing of St Roch is finished. So journal entries begin. I always liked the original device Roger Roberts made for my father’s business, ‘The Natural Energy Centre’. I recall Roger telling me, while I did some work experience with him, that he had just sketched out an idea of a building surrounded by trees with the name Natural Energy Centre incorporated into the picture. Dad had been so pleased with it he said there was no need to go any further. Roger had thought to refine the design further but no. It had a rustic vibe that suited the business at its infancy. Unfortunately, I do not have an example of it to show but rustic is not quite what I’m trying for St Roch.

Perhaps a more simplistic front view and less rustic. There is actually a small stone retaining walled garden bed running along the front terrace and terraced paths amongst cascading plants beneath the white gravel drive. Artistic licence.

Better. I can see the people popping corks and enjoying themselves in this version of St Roch.
