Be Present - indulge in the waves
Small waves with promo handout image by Priscilla Berry
Be Present - indulge in the waves exhibition was great to see St Roch working as a beautiful exhibition space. Not the same as wandering amongst the pieces, riding the smell of a lavender wave or being transported by the sounds of the thrusting waves against the rocks of the B&O shape installation, but come-in and have a look through the gallery.
As people entered the space, they were handed a small wave to take home and the following descriptions to navigate amongst the waves.
“This exhibition consists of pieces from 3 series and 2 installations of Priscilla Berry’s work.”
“Left of the entrance, you encounter the ‘wave of lavender’ installation. The aroma intensifies as you move closer, heightening the sensation and then it recedes as you move off to the next piece.”
“In the centre of the exhibition is the ‘space wave’, series. These pieces exquisitely evolved from a book I started with my daughter but what story can you see in them?”
“The ‘wavescapes’ evolve as a collage of images, sketches, papers, inks, moods excitingly peaking upon discovering the spot to step back and hang the view.”
“The pieces from the ‘containership’ series are on the wall below the balcony and they are an illustrative representation of the wave of goods flowing on and off-share in a busy distribution hub. Can you catch a fox or would you pay the toll?”
“The other installation is on the other side of the staircase beneath the balcony. It is a sound wave installation designed using Bang & Olufsen’s ‘shape’ speaker tiles utilising both negative and positive space. Be present with the sound waves” of the ocean. “This installation flows on from the containership series and ends with the bench”.
“Unlike previous exhibitions where I have titled each piece and then exhibited in order of the intended story, this exhibition the pieces have no names to allow for each viewer to ride their own wave.
Where will your brain-waves take you?”
